  As Boston's No. 1 pick in the 1962 NBA Draft, Ohio State All-American John Havlicek paid immediate dividends. With Havlicek coming off the bench, the Celtics won four straight NBA titles and would win four more during his 16 seasons wearing No. 17 for the green-and-white. A versatile player whose nickname "Hondo" was inspired by the John Wayne movie of the same name, Havlicek starred at both guard and forward. He was a tireless worker who played in an astounding 1,270 games. A 13-time All-Star and MVP of the 1974 NBA Finals, Hondo was a clutch player and prolific scorer who finished his career with 26,395 points. The mark remains a Celtics all-time record. At the time of his retirement in '78, he was the NBA's all-time leader in games played and ranked in the Top 10 in minutes played and total points.
