Houston Rockets - Moses Malone NBA Retired Jersey Numbers
Moses Malone was selected directly out of high school by the Utah Stars in the third round of the 1974 ABA Draft. He played in two ABA seasons with Utah and St. Louis, and after the ABA/NBA merger, Malone suited up for eight teams during a 19-season NBA career. More importantly, he earned one NBA championship ring and Finals MVP award (with Philadelphia in 1983), three NBA MVP awards (1979, ‘82 and ‘83), eight All-NBA selections and 12 NBA All-Star bids. Statistically, Malone ranks fifth all-time in NBA history in both points (27,409) and rebounds (16,212), but when you consider his overall ABA/NBA numbers, Malone (17,834 total rebounds) was out-rebounded by only two players in history – Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. Malone, named one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in 1996, received additional honors when Houston retired his No. 24 Rockets jersey in 1998 and the Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed him as part of its 2001 induction class.
